UNHCR staff operate in some 134 countries around the world, from major capitals to remote, difficult locations where our field staff are directly helping the most vulnerable victims of displacement. We maintain offices in donor countries worldwide and wherever refugees are arriving, working closely with governments to ensure the 1951 Refugee Convention is honoured.

UNHCR staff operate in some 125 countries around the world, from major capitals to remote, difficult locations where our field staff are directly helping the most vulnerable victims of displacement. We maintain offices in donor countries worldwide and wherever refugees are arriving, working closely with governments to ensure the 1951 Refugee Convention is honoured.

UNHCR headquarter is at Geneva but about 85 per cent of staff are in the field. The largest portion of staff are based in countries in Asia and Africa, the continents that both host and generate the most refugees and internally displaced people. Many are in isolated locations where staff work in difficult - and often dangerous - conditions

The Thai government invited UNHCR to begin working in Thailand in 1975. Today, UNHCR focuses on protection activities and programmes to ensure that refugees live in safety and relative security within the nine camps. UNHCR has 37 international staff and 80 national staff working in Thailand in Bangkok and other three field offices in Kanchanaburi, Mae Hong Son and Tak provinces.
