There is currently no backlog of Syrians awaiting registration. Syrians can now register with UNHCR at its centres in Irbid and Amman upon first contact the same day.

The Government of Japan today formally announced a new provision of its Emergency Grant Aid to UNHCR and UNICEF amounting to a total of US$3.5 million for continued emergency humanitarian assistance to Syrians affected by the ongoing crisis.
Under the new Emergency Grant Aid, UNHCR has received US$2 million towards providing primary healthcare services and referrals for Syrians. It will also allow UNHCR in assisting the most vulnerable refugees in urban areas with vital cash assistance to help meet their basic needs such as paying for the rent and daily living expenses.

To better understand refugees’ perceptions and the reasons that challenge formalization of work, UNHCR, the World Bank and the ILO in coordination with Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC) and the MoL have set up a periodic analysis of working Syrians. They will survey a sample of 1,000 refugees with or without work permits, as well as employers, twice a year to better understand trends and motivations. The first data collection was undertaken in August through the UNHCR helpline and UNHCR volunteers, with the above factsheet providing highlights of the first analysis.

Please find attached the 2017 1st Quarter Post Distribution Monitoring Report for Cash Assistance to Syrian Refugees. UNHCR conducts post-distribution monitoring exercises on a quarterly basis for Syrian refugees and a bi-annual basis for non-Syrian refugees. The report analyses the results of home visits and phone interviews with a geographically representative sample of 554 beneficiary families. In the first quarter of 2017, 30,000 Syrian refugee families were supported per month and 16 million USD was distributed. For twenty-three percent of beneficiaries, UNHCR is their sole source of income.
