3.2 million refugees have fled Syria to neighbouring countries and North Africa.
As insecurity and violence continue to cause displacement within Syria and across the region, more than 90,000 Syrians have being registered on average each month this year in countries in the regional refugee response.
Humanitarian needs remain enormous. Government services and local communal services are under strain due to the increased demand, impacting service quality for both refugees and nationals, and threatening social cohesion.

Clashes between international forces and the ex-Seleka in Batangafo (Ouham prefecture), Central African Republic (CAR), have led to the displacement of an estimated 20,000 people within the town. Following the escalation of violence, that adversely affected civilians and humanitarian access, the Protection Cluster in CAR issued an advocacy note calling for humanitarian access and to not target the civilian population. The Protection Cluster urged international forces in CAR to ensure the protection of civilians in order to prevent massive displacement.
Iraq Operational Update 1-10 August 2014

Following heavy fighting in the Sinjar area of Ninewa Governate, nearly 200,000 people have been forced from their homes and are in urgent need of life-saving assistance. Thousands have fled to the Dohuk governorate of the Kurdistan Region, with many dehydrated and suffering sun or heat stroke as the daily temperatures reach 40 to 45 degrees Celsius.

South Sudan Refugee Situation Regional Update

- As a result of heavy and intense rains, large areas of the Bentiu PoCs were under 20-30 centimeters of water. Families that were most affected are being relocated to drier areas.
- Communities and displaced populations living in congested camps with poor hygiene and sanitation are at high risk of contracting cholera in South Sudan.
- The ongoing rainy season makes it impossible for the population to plough their lands and malaria and other diseases common in this period of the year are to be expected in the near future.
- Of South Sudan’s roughly 11 million people, 3.9 million are projected to be in emergency or crisis levels of food insecurity between June and August 2014, according to the last World Food Programme (WFP) Situation Report
