Objectif(s)Improve health conditions in border communities through health promotion and capacity building in community health promoters.
Results/Impact

Along with the participation and technical support from the Provincial Health Directorate of Sucumbíos (DPSS), ACOPSAS and the Ecuadorian Red Cross, the process of training health promoters and their recognition as a major human resource within the health care network has been strengthened.

A cooperation agreement has been signed with the Provincial Health Directorate of Sucumbíos for referral of patients from the border through the health promoters, and the strengthening of such promoters through training on issues related to disease prevention, health promotion and replicas of said training in other communities.

Why is this considered a Good practice?Since access to health services and trained personnel is very limited in the border areas, the training in health issues has had a positive impact on border communities. A culture of prevention has been created to reduce risk in areas where morbidity is high, strengthening inter-community relations in common interests and transfer of knowledge through training those communities.
