It was inspiring to discuss the “Shirika” plan: Kenya’s vision to support the self-reliance of refugees and the resilience of communities hosting them. Thank you, Prime Cabinet Secretary @MusaliaMudavadi and partners: states, financial institutions, private sector, civil society. https://t.co/lidByo0WlF

On #WorldRefugeeDay we have reached unfortunately also a very sad target — more than 500,000 people have now fled the fighting in Sudan to neighbouring countries. Half a million refugees. Guns must fall silent if we want this exodus to stop.

I am observing #WorldRefugeeDay in Kenya with President @WilliamsRuto to support his government’s efforts to turn camps into integrated settlements, a pioneering approach to the protection and inclusion of refugees — and in recognition of Africa’s hospitality to those who flee. https://t.co/BSuW3Ylfap

There are 35 million people who have fled their country because of war, violence, persecution, discrimination. Refugees have the right to protection from what they fear, deserve opportunities to rebuild their lives and must be given respect for their courage. #WorldRefugeeDay https://t.co/zGFjhOWqLb

At the donor meeting on the humanitarian and refugee crisis caused by fighting in Sudan, US$1.5 billion were pledged by donors. Thank you. Now funds must be very urgently allocated and disbursed so that more aid can reach those in dire need in Sudan and in neighbouring countries.

On the eve of #WorldRefugeeDay I am visiting Kakuma, where since 1992 the people and government of Kenya have hosted generations of refugees, and where in spite of many challenges new approaches to the inclusion and self-reliance of refugees are pursued, with good donor support. https://t.co/aW7RkVsISt

At the #SyriaConf2023 in support of the people of Syria, convened in Brussels by the @EU_Commission, donors announced €5.6 billion in grants. It is urgent that pledges translate into tangible contributions for people in need: those in Syria, Syrian refugees and host communities. https://t.co/lBSRAvi2zE

Violent clashes in and around camps for the displaced in North Darfur have killed over 100 people. There are shocking reports of horrific sexual violence against women and girls. This will worsen unless the parties to the conflict agree to end a fight that is destroying Sudan.
