About Telling the Real Story

Telling the Real Story is a UNHCR project which aims to promote an intra-community dialogue about the risks of trafficking and smuggling for people on the move.

Telling the Real Story’s dedicated social media channels serve as a platform for discussion and knowledge-sharing amongst communities and with their insights, provide an opportunity for UNHCR to refer them to safe pathways for protection as an alternative to undertaking dangerous journeys.

UNHCR is committed to providing the best we can for the communities that we serve. This means placing a high value on meaningful dialogue with refugees, returnees, internally

displaced and stateless persons to ensure that our programme interventions and our advocacy are shaped by what they tell us about their capacities, needs, expectations and aspirations. It requires us to identify and pursue concrete actions to enable working in partnership with and being accountable to the communities we serve.

Over a five-year period, UNHCR will develop or build on innovative and creative solutions, scale bright spots and leverage technologies to ensure UNHCR is a 21st century accountable organization.
