Gunmen on a motorbike have opened fire on two military advisers from Belarus, killing one of them and severely wounding another.

The press attaché of the Russian Embassy in Sanaa, Nikolai Lyagushkin, said that the two were shot in the Yemeni capital on November 26 as they left a hotel where they were staying in the southern part of the city.

Earlier reports mistakenly claimed the victims were Russian nationals.

Yemen's authorities have blamed previous drive-by shootings on Islamist militants linked to Al-Qaeda.

Earlier on November 26, the Interior Ministry said a Yemeni air raid killed 12 suspected members of Al-Qaeda in the restive southern province of Abyan.

It said the air raid took place at the "beginning of the week."
