According to an official of the High Commission for India in Ottawa, a person born in Malaysia of Indian parents would be eligible for Indian citizenship provided that the person's parents are still Indian citizens and the person had not adopted the nationality of another country (30 Mar. 1994). The source added that India does not recognize dual-citizenship (ibid.).

According to an official of the High Commission for Malaysia in Ottawa, Malaysian passports are, without exception, issued only to Malaysian citizens (29 Mar. 1994).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
