Malaysian and U.S. authorities said a Kosovo citizen has been arrested in Kuala Lumpur for allegedly providing information about U.S. service members to the Islamic State (IS) militant group.
Malaysian national police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said late on October 15 that the man, in his 20s and a student, was arrested on September 15.
Khalid said initial investigations showed the man was in contact with a senior IS leader in Syria. He is accused of providing information on U.S. service members obtained after hacking several servers.
Khalid said that the man entered Malaysia in August 2014 to study computer science and will be extradited to the United States.
In a separate statement, the U.S. State Department identified the man as Ardit Ferizi, who is believed to be the leader of a Kosovar Internet hacking group.
