According to a representative of the Consulate of France in Montréal, at the time Djibouti was granted independence in 1977, all nationals of Djibouti were given a period of three months to obtain French nationality (26 Nov. 1992). If an individual did not choose to become a French national during that period of time, he/she was automatically considered a national of Djibouti (Ibid.).

Additional and/or corroborative information on this subject could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
