According to the articles attached to this response, the government of The Seychelles decided in late-1990 to introduce some changes to the National Youth Service (NYS) as part of a reform of the education system. One of the documents states that the NYS has now been reduced to one year, to be carried out after four years of secondary school (Indian Ocean Newsletter 15 Sept. 1990, 6). The same source states that the NYS is formally voluntary, although students are required to attend week-end and summer youth camps in preparation for the NYS.
