In correspondence dated 29 July 2002, a Canadian missionary based in Blantyre with Presbyterian World Service and Development wrote that there is a very small "coloured" community in Blantyre engaged in a variety of businesses "that seem to be doing well enough." He was not aware of any instances of harassment of coloured peoples in the area (ibid.). The missionary noted that the press, to the best of his knowledge, had never reported on this specific issue (ibid.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
