According to an official at the Embassy of Spain in Ottawa, all Equatorial Guineans, no matter their year of birth, can obtain Spanish nationality by fulfilling a two- year residency requirement (25 June 1998). The official added that offspring of a Equatorial Guinean who has acquired Spanish nationality would be subjected to the same residency requirement.
For additional information on the procedures and requirements to acquire Spanish nationality for a child whose parent acquired Spanish nationality, please consult Response to Information Request ESP18538.E of 6 October 1994, including its Juris-Classeur attachment.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
