The lawyers for three members of the female punk band Pussy Riot said on August 27 they have filed an appeal against the jail sentence their clients received.

Lawyer Nikolai Polozov said he had filed the appeal documents with the Moscow City Court.

Another Pussy Riot lawyer, Violetta Volkova, said all the papers were in order but she did not rule out that the court would request additional documents.

Pussy Riot members Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevich were found guilty earlier this month of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred" for their performance of a "punk prayer" at a Moscow cathedral in February and were sentenced to two years in jail.
