Yemeni officials say more than 30 policemen and soldiers were killed in southern Yemen in attacks attributed to Al-Qaeda.
Yemeni military sources say Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) targeted a special-forces camp at Maifaa in Shabwa Province on September 20, killing several police officers.
At the same time, gunmen attacked two army posts 15 kilometers away, killing some 30 soldiers. The figures could not be independently confirmed.
Al-Qaeda is launching frequent attacks on the army and police in the south and east.
Yemeni forces are battling the group with U.S. assistance.
On September 15, a court in the capital jailed three AQAP militants for plotting to assassinate President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi and the U.S. ambassador to Yemen.
