The following information was provided by an official at the Direction de contrôle de l'immigration of Aéroport de Paris-Orly (Orly airport) in Paris during a 25 January 1995 telephone interview.

There are two international airports in Paris, one is Orly airport and the other, Aéroport de Paris-Charles de Gaulle (Charles de Gaulle airport).

Foreign nationals in transit at an airport in France with Canadian destination are not required to undergo any documentation checks by French immigration authorities at the airport if they stay less than a day in the country and do not leave the airport's boarding area (zône d'embarquement).

Foreign nationals in transit at an airport in France with Canadian destination who stay more than a day in France require a hotel reservation in France, a transit visa and a ticket to Canada. These individuals will have their documents verified by French immigration authorities when they leave the airport's boarding area for their hotel. Another document check will take place upon re-entry to the airport's boarding area.

Requirements for passengers in transit at the Orly airport are similar to those at Charles de Gaulle. The official does not believe that there are any special security procedures applicable specifically to South Korean and Chinese nationals.

For general information on the transit requirements in France, please refer to the attachment.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
