Information on exit security checks at Ugandan airports for departing Ugandan citizens was scarce among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. In 4 November 2009 correspondence with the Research Directorate, the Aviation Security Manager of the Civil Aviation Authority, which advises the Ugandan government on policy matters concerning civil aviation (Uganda n.d.a), stated that exit security checks at Entebbe International Airport include baggage screening, physical searches of passengers and document verification of passports, visas and air tickets (Uganda 4 Nov. 2009). The Aviation Security Manager noted that airport personnel conduct criminal checks on "suspects or as directed by Uganda police on specific cases" (ibid.). Entebbe International Airport is the only international airport in Uganda (ibid.; ibid. n.d.b).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection. Please find below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
