A German aid worker kidnapped in Afghanistan last month has been freed.
The German Foreign Ministry said on May 29 that the hostage, an unidentified male, was at the German Consulate in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e Sharif.
The Foreign Ministry said the captive, who had been abducted in Kunduz Province in mid-April while riding in a taxi, "is doing well under the circumstances."
The ministry said the kidnapping had been kept quiet by German officials in an effort to secure his release.
The spokesman for the governor of Kunduz Province, Abdul Wadood Wahidi, said the German was rescued by local security forces in the Charhar Dara district.
The man reportedly worked for the German Society for International Cooperation.
Afghan police said he was abducted by Taliban militants.
