Authorities in Azerbaijan's breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh region say their forces have captured at least one Azerbaijani soldier who they say was involved in a commando raid from the Azerbaijani side.

In a statement issued by the unrecognized state on July 10, Nagorno-Karabakh's de facto Defense Ministry named the captured Azerbaijani officer as Shahbaz Quliyev.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry denied the claims and said Quliyev is not an officer of Azerbaijan's army.

The Baku office of the International Committee of the Red Cross said on July 11 that has received no information about the case and is investigating the claims about Quliyev.

Baku and Yerevan remain locked in hostilities over Nagorno-Karabakh, which was seized from Azerbaijan by Armenian-backed separatists during a devastating war in the early 1990s.
