Regional officials say militants have seized at least 22 men from a paramilitary security force in attacks on checkpoints in northwest Pakistan.

The officials said two men were killed when dozens of militants armed with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons attacked checkpoints near Pakistan's tribal region early on December 27.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the officials blamed the Pakistani Taliban.

Pakistan's tribal region is regarded as a base for Taliban militants.
