Since March , inter-clan conflict between the Garre and Degodia clans in Mandera County in north-eastern Kenya has caused the deaths of at least 85 people, leaving over 30,000 people newly displaced at the end of June.Challenges accessing those in need, mostly located in Wajir County, Banisa and Rhamu Constituencies, have hindered the Kenyan Red Cross Society and its partners from providing assistance. Tensions between the relatives of the two communities have reportedly spread across the border to Ethiopia .

Fears remained among IDPs since three bombs were planted in an IDP camp in Nakuru County. To date, it remains unclear who is behind these attacks and what motivated the foiled attempt. Although there were no casualties, fear of further attacks may cause families living in the affected area to leave their homes.

An estimated total of 300,000 people have fled their homes in Kenya since December 2012. Moreover, there have been over 100,000 people newly displaced by floods so far this year. While instances of new displacement in Kenya continue, for most IDPs, durable solutions are still a distant reality. This highlights the importance of fast-tracking the implementation of the Prevention, Protection and Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons and Affected Communities Act adopted in December 2012.
