The following information was provided in a 18 April 1995 telephone interview with an official of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Ottawa.

An individual wishing to exit or enter Turkey requires a valid passport which is stamped by an immigration officer upon exiting and entering the country. An individual wishing to fly out of Turkey must present his/her plane ticket to the airline official at the airline counter with which s/he is flying whereupon the individual will be given his/her boarding pass. The individual's luggage is electronically checked at customs and his/her passport is stamped by an immigration officer before s/he can board the plane (ibid.).

For information on the procedures and requirements of a Belgian passport holder to enter the United Kingdom as a final destination, please refer to the letter and its attachment dated 9 May 1995 which was sent to the DIRB by the Immigration Section of the High Commission of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, in Ottawa.

Please consult the attachment from Travel Attachment Manual for the requirements to enter Turkey and Great Britain.

For information on visa requirements of an individual travelling to Turkey on a Belgian passport, please consult Response to Information Request TUR20416.E of 21 April 1995, which is available at Regional Documentation Centres.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
