The following information was provided in 26 March 2000 correspondence from the Director General of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, Ontario Branch:

The conference, which is equivalent to an annual general meeting (AGM), was held in summer of 99 in London, Ontario at the University of Western Ontario on July 17, 1999.

The people who attended the AGM consisted of active Party members who were present to review the Party's previous activities in Canada, and elect a new committee for the province of Ontario. A member of the Party's European Committee was also present to observe the process of the AGM or the conference.

The Party's General Director of the Ontario Committee presented the previous year's report of the Committee. Then, the AGM proceeded with a period of questions and suggestions from the participants. It ended with the election of members for the new Ontario Committee.

For some security reasons, we cannot disclose either the names of those who attended or the new elected members.

In a 11 April 2000 telephone interview, an Inspector with the University Police at the University of Western Ontario stated that the university does not have a record of a room being reserved for 17 July 1999 on behalf of the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran. However, a room which can accommodate about 50 people was reserved for the hours of 12:30 - 8 PM, 17 July 1999 by a person identified as Sharif Behruz, for a group by the name of the Kurdish Community of London.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
