According to the attached Houston Post article, the Armenian Orthodox Church "has operated without restriction in Iran, Iraq and other nations in the Middle East" (20 Aug. 1994). The article provides additional information on the status of Armenians in Iraq.

The attached 30 November 1990 Ethnic NewsWatch report provides general information on the status of Armenians in Iraq.

Response to Information Request ZZZ22068 of 15 October 1995, which refers to ethnic ties between Armenians and Kurds, might be useful.

Sources consulted by the DIRB do not provide information additional to the above-mentioned information on the treatment of Armenians in Iraq, in general, and in Iraqi Kurdistan, in particular.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
