The Red Cross says the situation in Sirte is "dire" as fighting between interim forces and Qaddafi backers rages.
The Red Cross says the situation in the Libyan city of Sirte is dire.
Residents have reportedly been caught in crossfire as troops from the interim National Transitional Council (NTC) battle fighters loyal to Muammar Qaddafi for control of the hometown of the ousted Libyan leader.
A spokesman for the Red Cross said the city's hospital is running low on key supplies and that wounded can't get there due to the fighting and NATO bombing. He also said NTC troops had launched a major assault shortly after a Red Cross team arrived in the city with badly-needed supplies on October 1.
Another Red Cross worker, Karen Strugg, told Reuters on October 2 that she hopes the group's supplies will be distributed to the needy there.
There have been reports of residents in the city of 100,000 paying up to $800 to fill their cars with scarce fuel to escape the fighting.
