OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović
The Representative on Freedom of the Media from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Dunja Mijatovic, has called for a "swift and transparent" investigation following a recent attack on a journalist in Macedonia.
The OSCE says Mijatovic wrote in a letter to Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki on July 23 that the attack on reporter Cornelia Krebs was "totally unacceptable, as it constitutes a direct threat to free media."
"There must be no impunity for attacks or threats against journalists," she added.
The OSCE says Krebs, who was reporting on border migration issues for the Austrian public service broadcaster ORF, was physically attacked by a local law enforcement officer on the border to Greece on June 28.
The organization says the law enforcement officer also attempted to confiscate her camera and other equipment.
