Detailed information on the models, plates and markings of vehicles used by the Salvadorean security forces could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC, except for two brief references and photographs. In El Salvador: `Death Squads' - A Government Strategy (London: Amnesty International, 1988), p. 22, a photograph of a Toyota pick-up truck is shown as being used by members of the National Guard. The publication Counterterrorism in Action (Los Angeles: El Rescate Human Rights Department/Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, 1987), states refers to new Dodge police cars and pick-up trucks (page 11). Page 15 of this source (attached) shows a new pick-up truck with its identification number (5057) in the rear side, the rooftop of the cabin and the front license plate, an insignia on the doorside and another insignia on the hood of the engine, as well as a motto above the rear side number: "Al servicio del pueblo" (which could translate to "on the people's service" or "serving the people", although it is translated by the publication as "serving the community").
