Aung San Suu Kyi has visited Myanmar migrants in Thailand on her first trip abroad in more than two decades.
Cheering crowds greeted the pro-democracy leader in Bangkok and the town of Mahachai.
On May 31, Suu Kyi, who spent most of the past 24 years under house arrest, is to attend the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Bangkok.
She is scheduled to then go to Europe, where in Norway she will formally accept the Nobel Peace Prize she was awarded 21 years ago.
Suu Kyi had refused to leave Myanmar during her brief periods of freedom, fearing the ruling military would not allow her to return.
Myanmar in recent months has been emerging from international isolation as a new government moves toward reforms after elections 18 months ago.
