Former Lieutenant-Colonel Aldo Rico was described as the mayor (intendente) of San Miguel, Buenos Aires as recently as May 2001 (La Nación 9 May 2001; ibid. 1 May 2001; La Hoja 16 May 2001). In this capacity, he has attended numerous public events in 2001, including the inauguration of a new wing of the Dr. Ramón Carrillo Hospital in Los Polvorines, Buenos Aires (168 Horas 2 Jan. 2001); a commemoration of the 19th anniversary of the conflict with the United Kingdom, hosted by the Argentinean air force (La Nación 1 May 2001); and an exercise by troops attached to the 601st airborne battalion at the Campo de Mayo military base (La Nación 9 May 2001).

Rico, who was born on 2 March 1943, is married to Noemí Crocco (ibid. 28 Oct. 1996; Página/12 7 Nov. 1999; Clarín 10 Mar. 2000). They have two daughters, both married to retired military officers (ibid.) and one son, who bears a "diminutive" form of his father's name (La Nación 28 Oct. 1996).

No reports of Rico's intervention to defend his son's character could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints.
