BISHKEK – A traffic accident in southern Kazakhstan has killed 16 people, including 14 citizens of neighboring Kyrgyzstan.

The Kyrgyz Ministry for Emergencies said the accident occurred on April 19 in Kazakhstan's Zhambyl region, where a truck collided with a minibus carrying 18 passengers and both vehicles caught fire.

Thirteen Kyrgyz citizens, including three children, died at the scene, as did the truck driver, a Kazakh. Another Kyrgyz citizen and a Kazakh died in the hospital.

Four Kyrgyz citizens remained hospitalized in Kazakhstan, where authorities are investigating the crash.

Authorities said the adults aboard the minibus were labor migrants headed for Russia.
