The number of people internally displaced in Côte d'Ivoire following the publication of presidential election results has continued to rise. On 8 February, IDPs were mainly located in Duékoué, Man, Danané, Binhouye, Zouhanhouin, and Guiglo districts in the west of the country. Groups of IDPs have also been identified in villages near the Liberian border. According to UNFPA, 70 per cent of IDPs are women, children and older people.

UNHCR, IOM and UNFPA have completed an exercise to register IDPs. This exercise was designed to better establish the size and also the profile of the population newly displaced. On 8 February, nearly 35,000 IDPs had been registered in the west. In Douéké alone, over 28,000 IDPs have been registered, out of whom 8,000 have taken shelter in Duékoué's Catholic mission. UNHCR is working with the authorities to identify a site for a camp there.

According to OCHA, humanitarian organisations urgently need funding to cope with the increasing number of IDPs and refugees with limited access to health care, particularly with the rainy season approaching. In the meantime, they have continued to provide food, water and sanitation, shelter, health care, protection and education to IDPs. UNFPA has given particular attention to the reproductive health needs of internally displaced women as well as their protection against gender-based violence.
