A representative of the Statistics Division of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in Washington stated in a 14 December 2001 telephone interview that the country breakdown for acceptance rates of asylum seekers in the United States was not available for the fiscal years 1999-2001.

The following statistics on asylum cases filed with INS asylum officers for Saudi Arabia for fiscal year 1998 is available on the INS Website:

Cases pending beginning of year: 22

Cases filed during year: 12

Cases reopened during year: 2

Cases granted during year: 6

Percent approved: 50

Individuals granted asylum during year: 7

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
