The attached articles provide some information on the carapintadas and on Aldo Rico's recent political activities. Rico has formed a political party called the Movimiento por la Dignidad y la Independencia (Modin), which is registered as a nationwide political party (Latin American Regional Reports-Southern Cone 1 July 1993, 2-3). Modin won 5.8 per cent of the vote in the October 1993 elections (ibid. 18 Nov. 1993, 2) which was enough to rank it as the third largest party in the country (Latin American Weekly Report 3 June 1993, 252).

The attached excerpt from Political Forces in Argentina provides some information on the activities of the carapintadas, their political orientation towards Menem, the incarceration of Seineldin, and Rico's establishment of Modin (1993, 116-118).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
