In a telephone interview on 8 November 2000, the First Secretary of the Lebanese Embassy in Ottawa stated that an illegitimate child born in Lebanon to a Lebanese mother and an unknown father can be registered with the Lebanese authorities. However, if the father is known and is stateless, it will not be possible to register the child with the Lebanese authorities. The registration of the child will have to be done according to the father's origins.

This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
