DUSHANBE – Tajik authorities say they have arrested two men affiliated with the Islamic State extremist group who planned 12 terrorist attacks across the country.
The Tajik Interior Ministry said on July 24 that investigators found oxygen capsules, explosives, and other elements used to make bombs in the houses of the detained men, Bobojon Rajabov and Sadriddin Jabborov.
The ministry said the two received instructions from a Tajik national currently fighting with Islamic militants in Syria on how to violently attack three police stations in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, and several other places across the country.
The attacks were to be implemented during the last days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that ended on July 17.
On July 16, security forces in neighboring Kyrgyzstan killed six militants and arrested seven more, whom authorities described as members of Islamic State planning a series of terrorist attacks in Kyrgyzstan.
