Police in France are questioning three suspected Islamic extremists deported from Pakistan this week.
Diplomatic and judicial sources said on April 4 that the three Frenchmen were formally detained for questioning after being deported from Pakistan.
They were arrested in western Pakistan in May last year.
They had entered the country illegally from Iran to fight Western troops in neighboring Afghanistan.
The three suspects are aged 27, 29 and 30.
The three were detained along with Naamen Meziche, a Frenchman of North African origin.
Western security services presume him to be a member of Al-Qaeda.
Official sources say that Meziche was taking the other three to the tribal areas along the Afghan border, which is considered a rear base for the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
