SERPAJ's annual reports on the situation of human rights in Uruguay are published in Spanish only. The 1993 and 1994 reports are available upon request at the Ottawa resource centre.               Please note that SERPAJ's reports on human rights are published in October of each year and they cover a period from October to October.

Also note that, according to a SERPAJ representative, there is no official human rights commission in Uruguay although there is a parliamentary committee on human rights, headed by parliamentary deputy Marcos Abelenda, which does not publish reports on its activities (10 July 1995). Additional and/or corroborating information on this statement could not be found by the DIRB within the time constraints for this Response.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
