For information on the Ogaden-Geri clan and their relationship to the Al Itihad, please consult SOM28137.E of 24 October 1997 and SOM23304.E of 10 April 1996. According to Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 1998, "military forces conducted low-level operations against the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), the Somalia-based Al'ittihad terrorist organization, and elements of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), although there was less of this activity than in 1997" (1999).

For the relationship between the Ethiopian Government and the al Itihad, please consult ETH30688.E of 8 December 1998, and the numerous other Responses on the Al Itihad.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
