The president of the Paris-based Congrès mondial Amazigh (Amazigh World Congress) stated that a pan-Berber project has been in existence for a certain number of years in the academic world, supervized by Professor Salem Chaker, Berber language professor at the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilisations – INALCO), in Paris (12 Apr. 2001). The president did not know whether the project was still ongoing, but stated that there were working groups, also under the supervision of Professor Chaker, on the standardization of the Berber language and its terminology. The president did not know of any other similar project being implemented outside the academic field (ibid).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
