The Armenian community in Lebanon has been known for its neutrality in the civil war which has been fought throughout Lebanon since the 1970's. [ Keesing's Contemporary Archives Record of World Events, (London: Longman Press, 1986), p. 34586.] There were approximately 175,000 Armenian Lebanese living in the north east section of Beirut in 1986. [ Minority Rights Group Ltd., LEBANON: A Conflict of Minorities, (London: Pergamon Press, 1986), pp. 8 and 9.] The Attached maps show the location of the Armenian communities in Lebanon.

The only reference found regarding attacks on the Armenian community was the Keesing's Contemporary Record from August of 1986. Five Armenians were killed and a number kidnapped at that time. [ Keesing's Contemporary Record..., p. 34586.]
