Unidentified gunmen have reportedly killed three members of Iran's security forces in the western province of Kermanshah.

Iranian media reported that the three were killed overnight while patrolling near the village of Taze-Abad, about 50 kilometers from the border with Iraq.

The semiofficial Fars news agency said a border outpost commander was among those killed.

A local security official was quoted as saying an unspecified "terrorist group" was behind the attack.

No other details were immediately available.

The attack comes after authorities in Shi'ite Iran beefed up security along its border amid a growing Sunni militant insurgency in Iraq.
