Pakistan's military says it has killed 18 militants in the latest air strikes in the volatile Khyber tribal district near the Afghan border.

The military said in a statement on October 26 the strikes targeted suspected hideouts of the Taliban and another banned militant group, Lashkar-e Islam.

A huge cache of arms and ammunitions was also destroyed during the strikes that took place late on October 25, the statement said.

Pakistani media reported that a key Lashkar-e Islam commander was among those killed in the air strikes.

Khyber is located in Pakistan's semiautonomous tribal belt.

Militant groups linked to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda have a strong presence in the area and stage attacks both in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
