An official at the Consular Section of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Ottawa stated during a 15 May 1996 telephone interview that a child born in Saudi Arabia to foreign parents is not a citizen of Saudi Arabia and does not have an option to claim or acquire Saudi citizenship. This option is only available to a child born to a Saudi Arabian father (ibid.).
A official at the Consular Section on the Embassy of Ethiopia in Ottawa stated during a 15 May 1996 interview that, in accordance with Ethiopia's new constitution, a child born to Ethiopian parents outside of Ethiopia will remain an Ethiopian citizen provided that he/she does not acquire the citizenship of another country. Ethiopian citizens are not entitled to dual citizenship.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
