Jose Armando Rodriguez Carreon was shot to death on 13 November 2008 after leaving his home to leave his daughter in school and then go to work at El Diario. The murderers had been watching and knew his routine.

Jose's work examined corruption in corporate security and the relationship between the authorities and organised crime. His friends and colleagues describe him as sensible and honest, passionately devoted to his family and the journalistic profession.

So far, it has been impossible to know who is responsible for his murder. Federal and state authorities have published contradictions and incorrect statements, confusing the investigation. The arrest of a suspect in 2010 was based on a case file full of inconsistencies.
