Syria's main opposition negotiating group has set out a plan for a political transition in the country.
The High Negotiations Committee (HNC), an umbrella group representing Syria's political and armed opposition factions, unveiled the plan in London on September 7.
It envisages six months of negotiations between opposition and government representatives, accompanied by a truce.
President Bashar al-Assad would then hand over power to a unity government that would run the country for 18 months and organize elections.
Assad has refused to step down since the beginning of the 5-year-old civil war, which has left more than 250,000 people dead.
Foreign ministers from the Friends of Syria group of countries that support Syria's opposition are to discuss the proposals later on September 7.
Previous international plans have failed to end the conflict.
