According to Article four of the Malawi Citizenship Act of 1966, "every person born in Malawi ... shall become a citizen of Malawi ... if one of his parents is a citizen of Malawi and is a person of African race...." Article five of the same act states that "a person born outside Malawi..., shall become a citizen of Malawi ... if his father or mother is a citizen of Malawi by birth and is a person of African race." According to Article eight of the Citizenship Act, Malawi does not recognize dual citizenship.
