Query:

Does the All Amhara People's Organization (AAPO) issue membership cards?

Response:

To become a member of the AAPO, one has to fill in an application form and pay a membership fee. There are 17 organizations in North American and Canada. These organizations are not political parties but support groups who raise funds and help AAPO members who may be in distress in Ethiopia or elsewhere. The AAPO are authorized to process memberships and maintain list of members (DIRB 16 October 1997). There are two AAPO organizations authorized to write "support letters" and they are located in Washington D.C. and Toronto. The Canadian office only writes letters for active members once they are in Canada (DIRB 24 June 1996).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the RIC within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
