Moscow police have detained more than 1,000 suspected illegal migrant workers at a market in the city's southeast.

Moscow officials of the Interior Ministry told journalists that all the individuals detained on August 7 were currently being checked by police.

Some 400 police officers were involved in the operation.

Moscow authorities have intensified efforts against illegal migrant workers in recent months.

Hundreds of suspected illegal immigrants were arrested last month in the Russian capital.

In June, Moscow police detained about 1,400 suspected illegal migrants from Central Asia living in a makeshift village and uncovered a vast underground complex for illegal migrants from Asia with a canteen, cinema, and chicken coop.
