A U.S. drone strike targeting a Pakistani Taliban commander in northwest Pakistan has reportedly killed at least six militants.
Pakistani security officials speaking on condition of anonymity said the drone fired two missiles in the January 4 strike.
One hit a compound of Pakistani Taliban commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur in North Waziristan, and the other hit the nearby base of an Uzbek commander, the officials said.
Earlier January 4, the Pakistani military said fresh air strikes in the Khyber region, which borders North Waziristan, had killed 31 militants.
A statement from the Pakistani military said four militant hideouts and a suicide bomber training center were destroyed in the attacks.
Pakistan's army says it has killed more than 1,200 militants since it started an offensive in North Waziristan last spring.
The military increased attacks on militants in the tribal areas after last month's massacre at a school in Peshawar when militants killed some 150 people, nearly all of them schoolchildren.
