A Bosnian couple has been accused of enslaving a German girl whom they kept locked up for eight years.
Milenko Marinkovic and his wife, Slavojka, were detained in a village in the northwestern Tuzla region on May 17 after a neighbor tipped off the authorities.
Police said the girl, who was found in a bad physical and psychological state, was subjected to "inhumane treatment and torture."
Prosecutors said the girl, now aged 19, was forbidden from meeting people and was not allowed to attend school.
The girl's mother, a German national, had once been married to Milenko Marinkovic.
Investigators questioned the mother as a witness in the case.
